Mid- course Blues!!!!

The word on the street is, that everyone of my friends and people on my course are really de-motivated about going on their second placement. (I know I am anyway). Maybe this is because we are not looking forward to the amount of work that will be coming our way in the next few weeks. I am really struggling to find the motivation to get organised for my next placement; which I know that I should be...but I am not. I am sure that once I get in school I will be fine. It's funny though, because we have to remind ourselves that come August we will be doing this full time, and their won't be little breaks at Uni for us to go to.

It is only 6 weeks, it will go past really quickly.

On the postive front, I feel slightly more confident about teaching programming now. I may not know all about the subject, and be the best programmer ever...but I am going to give it a go.

Hi Lesley,
I wouldn't worry about knowing all about the subject I don't think that is required. In the time I've been teaching I've never known everything about anything. As a primary teacher teaching I have no chance of knowing even a small percentage of what I am teaching (especially ict). A couple of valid choices, be one step ahead, or don't worry about making mistakes, they can be teaching opportunities, my answer to 'how do you spell?' is lets look it up ;-)

BTW you should get over to:

when you have a spare moment.
Good luck!

Amen to the above - and I'll add that being in a school full-time is a totally different ball game from all this dropping in and out (very unsettling). You make friends, you belong, you're not a visitor. The staff aren't strangers any more. It's cool.

Hi Lesley,

Hope your first day went well - I have no doubt it will have. I too was feeling less than excited about being back in school, but like Chris said, I think it was more the thought of having to 'settle in' again. I keep thinking we students have such a tough time, having to waltz into a class who have their own way of working and relationship with a teacher, and expect them to work the way we want them to.

Anyway best of luck for the remainder of placement....

I must say I haven't been feeling demotivated. Apprehensive, maybe. And it doesn't help when your PT has high expectations of you, "because you've done this before, in your first placement".
But, as you say, it's only six weeks. (And I haven't the faintest idea how to teach programming either: I guess we'll both find out!)
